OLA is the interuniversity PhD-student forum for research on Latin America.
Follow us on Facebook to keep up to date about our events!
We meet once a month, generally on the last Wednesday of the month from 15.00-17.00, and generally at the Centre for Latin American Research and Documentation (CEDLA) in Amsterdam. These informal meetings are meant to discuss the members’ work-in-progress: dissertation chapters, article drafts, conference papers, research proposals, etc. We strive to create a productive and positive feedback environment among peers. Due to the interdisciplinary character of the group there is ample space to exchange different theoretical and methodological vantage points.
OLA strives to organize an annual seminar and organizes “How-to” PhD workshops together with NALACS. OLA membership is free, the only requisite is that you realize (part of) your PhD at a Dutch university and that your research focuses on Latin America and/or the Caribbean. We currently have 65 members; regular meetings are generally attended by a fluctuating group (due to the fieldwork nature of much research) of 6-10 PhD students.
Interested in joining us? E-mail OLA’s current co-chairs Luisa González ([email protected]) and Laura Triana Gallego ([email protected]) with a brief description of your research project. Feel free to contact them for any questions or additional information too!
